VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY, FACULTY OF PHARMACY OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions in the DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY, FACULTY OF PHARMACY,OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE. A. POSITIONS: Lecturer II, Senior Technologist and Technologist II
B. QUALIFICATIONS: (i) Lecturer II must have B.Pharm. Degree (a GPA of not less than Second Class Lower grade) and a M.Sc. Pharmacognosy degree. Previous work experience as an academic staff in a Department of Pharmacognosy, publications in international or national journals and ability to proceed straight to Ph.D Pharmacognosy would be an added advantage. (ii) Senior Technologist must have a Minimum of HND/Bachelor’s Degree in Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry biased) and a minimum of four years post-qualification experience, preferably in an academic institution. (iii) Technologist II must have ND/NIST (Chemistry biased) and a minimum of two years post-qualification experience, preferably in an academic institution. C. SALARY: Salary and conditions of service are as obtained in the Nigerian University system D. DUTIES: (i) The Lecturer II would be primarily involved in practical classes’ demonstration and teaching undergraduate courses. Successful candidates must be academically inclined, interested in postgraduate studies, with evidence of contribution to research. He should also be ready for admission into higher degree in the Department from next academic session (2007/2008) and perform otherdepartmental assignments.(ii) Senior Technologist’s duties include but are not exclusive to the following:Be responsible to the Head of Department and course coordinators of the students’ practical classes; Supervision of the other laboratory staff and participation in research activities of the lecturers in the Department; Preparation of solutions and test reagents to specification; Any other assignments given by the Head of Department. In addition, such candidate must be very hardworking, diligent, honest and ready to learn. (iii) Technologist II: Should be able to perform the duties of a Senior Technologist and under his supervision, oversee other junior technological staff. He would directly be responsible to the Senior Technologist II and be ready to perform any other duties given by the Head of Department. E. (i) No. of Vacancies: Four (ii) Cadres: (i) Assistant Lecturer (ii) Lecturer II (iii) Lecturer I B. Qualifications: Assistant Lecturer: The assistant Lecturer must have a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree of not less than aSecond Class Lower Division and a Masters degree, both in Microbiology. No work experience required but some experience will be an advantage.
Lecturer II: The Lecturer II must have a B.Sc. (Hons) degree of not less than a Second Class Lower Division plus a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology. Experience of teaching in the University or equivalent institution will be an advantage.
Lecturer I: Must have the qualifications quoted for Lecturer II, publications in reputable journals and longer experience of teaching in the university or equivalent institution.
C. Salary: The salary and conditions of service are as obtained in the Nigerian University System.
D. Duties: The Lecturer will be expected to participate fully in teaching Microbiology Courses, running practical classes, grading of examination scripts, compilation of results and any other assignments that he/she may be given by the Head of Department.

Vacant position in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
ASSISTANT LECTURER (GEOGRAPHY)
Candidate for the position of Assistant Lecturer should have a minimum of a Master of Science degree in Geography from a recognized University; a good and practical knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) will be an added advantage.
Successful applicant will specialize in Industrial or Agricultural Geography in his / her PhD research work. He or she will also be expected to participate actively in teaching and conducting research in Geography, and would be expected to carry out other assignments in the Department.

PROGRAM CO-ORDINATOR - WEST AFRICA PUBLIC INTEREST LITIGATION CENTRE (WAPILC)
The OPEN SOCIETY INITIATIVE FOR WEST AFRICA (OSIWA) is seeking a dynamic individual as a PROGRAM COORDINATOR for the West Africa Public Interest Litigation Centre (WAPILC) in its Abuja, Nigeria office who will be able to advance our mission by using legal advocacy and strategic litigation skills. WAPILC envisions a West African community where citizens have greater access to justice through the development of effective capacities and implementable jurisprudence by means of Public Interest Litigation (PIL). Key duties and Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator will be accountable to the Executive Director of OSIWA.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, and with the guidance of the OSIWA Board of Directors , the Program Coordinator will assume an overall supervision, coordination, the day-to-day leadership and management role of the Centre. The position of the Program Coordinator is key both in the development of the program mandate and the realization of the institutional objectives set by the OSIWA Board. S/he will assess, develop and refine the strategic direction and implementation of activities, oversee the provision of legal assistance and litigation, research, production and dissemination of resource publications.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess: • A post-graduate university degree in law and admittance to the bar or attorneys roll; • At least eight (8) years of experience litigating cases in domestic and international fora; • Demonstrated commitment to public interest issues in general and extensive professional experience in the field of litigation, especially in human rights; • Ability to manage effectively multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; • Strong management, oral and written communication, and analytic skills; • Extraordinary initiative and creativity and meticulous attention to detail; • Extensive skills and high comfort level with computer research, database management and word processing; • Complete fluency in English and French; Additional Requirements • Pleasant, diplomatic manner and disposition in interacting with officials at all levels, contacts, and the general public; • Integrity, professional discretion and ability to handle confidential matters; • Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions and guide projects effectively and efficiently; • Ability to assume ultimate responsibility, work with grace under pressure and transmit that composure to others; • Be confident, energetic, humorous, accessible, flexible, decisive and supportive; • Ability and volition to work extended hours and undertake regional travel; • Demonstrated ability to write concise, analytical and well-argued reports;
